Mykonos is mostly known as an island of fun, a Greek Ibiza, but in recent years has begun to be chosen as a holiday destination also by families, couples; briefly, it has been chosen by tourists who do not necessarily look just for the beach and dancing, but who want to explore more deeply this small paradise in the Mediterranean.
What you can then see and do in an island like this?

Mykonos City
The main town of Mykonos has to be the first excursion to be organized to begin to discover the beauties that are hidden in this island. Chora Mykonos offers glimpses of a typical village in any of the Cyclades islands: low white houses, blue roofs and balconies decorated with bougainvillea. The best way to explore this city is on foot, getting lost in the streets and having a drink in one of the many bars and pubs present.
The most romantic part of the city is certainly Little Venice, a neighborhood where houses were built on the water, just like in Venice; some of them have remained private, while the majority have become bar, restaurant or local.
If you want to make a more cultural excursion, Chora Mykonos offers many museums, including the archaeological museum, founded in the early twentieth century, which houses many relics from the 2500 - 4500 BC.

KATO Myli
A symbol of Mykonos are the windmills of Kato Myli, not far from the port of the town of Chora Mykonos. Now Mykonos is an island, where tourism is the prime source of livelihood, but once was not so, the economy was almost entirely based on agriculture and fishing; the windmills are what remains of this old life and have therefore become the symbol of this island. Unfortunately you cannot go inside, but it's worth walking up to there to enjoy the scenery and beautiful sunsets in this part of the Mediterranean.

ANO MERA
This little village is definitely worth a visit if you want peace, tranquility and discover a Greece of ancient times; here because time seems to stand still when the settlers arrived to found this Cretan village, around 1600, and you can find really many details from the past.
In addition to solitary streets, churches and windmills in Ano Mera, you can visit the monastery of Panagia Tourliani with its the red dome, famous for its many treasures located inside seems to be originating in Florence. Founded in the sixteenth century by two monks coming from Paros, the island was dedicated to the patron. The monastery is open from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 19:30.
Around this village it would be interesting to make a visit to the hill Palaiokastro, the ancient site of a Venetian castle and, in all probability, the place where arose one of the oldest cities of Mykonos. Currently you can visit the monastery of Moni Palaiokastrou dated XVII century.

DELOS
This island, located west of the main island of Mykonos, is considered the religious heart of the Aegean Sea, where it is said that Apollo and Diana were born, and one of the most important archaeological sites throughout Greece. For these reasons, Delos was elected by the UNESCO World Heritage site.
The first inhabitants of Delos were the Ionians who arrived around 1000 BC and initially made this island one of the main religious points and then a major trading port.
There are many things to see, as Delos is considered to be an open-air archaeological museum, due the amount of mosaics and ruins that can be found. Do not miss the Terrace of the Lions, where were placed the marble lions coming from Naxos to protect the sacred lake, the theater district, with the Hellenistic theater built in a natural amphitheater in 300 BC, the home of masks and the home of dolphins, both old buildings where you can admire interesting mosaics.
