ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Located in a typical building of the neoclassical period, the Archaeological Museum is one of the most important museums not only in Greece but throughout the world for the amount of documents across the entire artistic production of ancient Greece. They are in fact remnants of the Cycladic, Minoan, Mycenaean and Classical period and between the most important pieces we must include the Mycenaean jewels and the famous mask of Agamemnon.
Open every day with different hours: Monday from 12:30 to 19:00, Tuesday to Friday from 08:00 to 19:00 Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 08:30 to 15:00.

Acropolis Museum
The new home of this museum, opened in June 2009 with orientation and dimensions copied from the Parthenon, is located right near the Acropolis and it only collects artifacts encountered therein. Many statues and fragments of ancient architectural decoration, as well as sculptures of the classical period; there are also exposed parts of the Parthenon frieze belonging to the greek government (the rest is in fact still exposed at the British Museum in London).

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF PIRAEUS
This museum houses the remains found in the harbor area and around it, all of the Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods. Among the items stand out of the tomb reliefs of the period between the fourth and second centuries BC and the statue of Apollo, also known as a kouros of Piraeus, famous for being the oldest statue in bronze realized with the technique of the fusion “a cera persa”.

Benaki Museum

This collection of the Greek patron Benaki includes works that give a view of all the Greek art and history of this country, and testimonies about the revolution that has hit Greece in modern times.
Open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00; on Thursdays and Sundays following part-time opening hours; closed on Tuesdays.

NATIONAL GALLERY
Near the Hilton Hotel, this museum is interesting for fans of painting and sculpture; in fact works of Greek and international contemporary art are exposed here,.
Open every day except Tuesdays from 09:00 to 15:00, only on Sunday following a short-time from 10:00 to 14:00.

Goulandris Museum of Cycladic Art and Greek
For those who love the Cyclades, they cannot miss this museum, which collects works created between the third and first millennium BC. This particular art is represented by simple figures in marble, which are perfectly enhanced by the atmosphere and the illumination of the rooms of the museum.

BYZANTINE MUSEUM
This museum houses important relics such as icons, mosaics and sculptures of the Byzantine art, recognized worldwide as one of the best in the genre.
Open Tuesday to Sunday from 08:30 to 15:00.

OTHER MUSEUMS IN ATHENS
In conclusion, let’s mention some other museums that might be interesting to visit during the permanence in the Greek capital city: the folklore museum (to understand the traditions rooted in this territory), the Jewish Museum (with exhibits that present one of the world's oldest Jewish communities), the museum of Hellenic children (with workshops where children have fun experimenting), National History Museum (free admission on Sundays), a museum of folk musical instruments (for music lovers, particularly the traditional Greek music).
