As in the rest of Greece, also in Mykonos the diet is mainly Mediterranean, with the olive oil at the base of all the preparations. Apart from the excellent Greek dishes such as moussaka, pastitsio or tzatziki sauce, to discover the gastronomy of Mykonos you can find many other products. Famous in particular the various appetizers, such as kopanisti, goat cheese obtained after different fermentation and then it tastes very strong, almost spicy, served with wine or with the more alcohol ouzo or to flavor salads.
Very good are the local sausages called luoza, which is a pork cooked with various spices and then served in thin slices and roasted. Similar is the Bouboule, only less spicy and therefore acceptable to a wider range.
The typical sweet of the island is amygdalota, made with almonds, served with the soumada, a popular soft drink made of almond milk.
The island is full of restaurants, of course, more or less traditional, where to find these and other specialties, some of these restaurant really in spectacular locations.
Mykonos City
- Macacas: restaurant for a special night, is one of the most exclusive of the island, with elegant and elaborate dishes, and is located in the courtyard of an old aristocratic house.
- Galleraki: located in the port area, is a relaxing environment at any time, from breakfast to dinner, named after the small art gallery which is located upstairs.
- En Plo, this too is located in the port area, is open 24 hours on 24 and offers typical Greek dishes at reasonable prices.
- Nikos Taverna: one of the most famous restaurants in Mykonos, both for the excellent quality of the dishes, and for a reasonable price, so do not expect to find a place so easily. Among the dishes you have to try the lobster and the skewers of meat.
- O Kounelas: This family tavern prepares fresh seafood in front of your eyes, but only for dinner, it is only open from 18:00 to 24:00.
- Sesame Kitchen: with a beautiful view of the windmills, this small tavern opens for dinner and only prepares a wide enough variety of dishes, which include international and vegetarian dishes.
BEACHES
- Panormos Restaurant: Located on the beach of the same name, serves innovative and different from what it can be found all over Mykonos.
- Tasos Restaurant: overlooking the bay of Paraga it offers typical Greek dishes, in an informal setting and maintaining prices quite affordable.
- Axinaioi: on the beach of Agia Anna there is this restaurant whose name means fruit of the sea and this is the main dish served, along with another series of Mediterranean dishes.
- Fokos: named after the beach on which it faces, this is a restaurant unknown to mass tourism and it still preserves the features of simplicity and authenticity. The variety of the menu is quite extensive and there are many homemade dishes or with products grown by the owners.
SURROUNDINGS
- Avra: out of town, in a place called kalogero, is another upscale restaurant, perfect for those looking for a special evening. Impeccable service and beautiful terrace, but the prices are not exactly cheap.
- Sea Satin Market: the prices are very high, but this restaurant, located in Alefkandra just below the famous windmills that characterize the island, is one of the most frequented by high society for the excellent dishes that are offered.
- Kasarma: to taste instead the typical Cycladic and Greek cuisine reworked with elegance and originality, this is definitely the right address. Located on the road along the port of Agion Anagiron is definitely a restaurant to be considered even for very good prices.
- Archaion Gevsis: When you enter this restaurant it seems to go back to the times of ancient Greece, with waiters dressed in draped robes, torches and oil lamps as lighting, clay jars for water and, of course, an ancient traditional menu. The prices are rather high, even if it's worth dining here at least once.
